Domaine des Faures is situated near the beautiful bastide town Monpazier, south of Bergerac. The bastide of Monpazier is a National heritage site and is considered the best example of a bastide town in the entire southwest of France.Perfectly placed for visiting either the Dordogne or Lot et Garonne the visitor has an abundance of things to see and do.

Pleasant days can be spent visiting the historic chateaux and other delightful bastide towns.Nearby Chateau Biron can be seen from one of the fields and is worth a visit. Its history is directly linked to the great Gontaut-Biron family, the holder of the castle for eight hundred years, who recently gave it to the nation. Lanquais is another beautiful chateau and a visit to Josephine Baker's chateau also makes an enjoyable outing.

Artists and historians will enjoy visiting the gallery at Montignac to see the exhibition of cave paintings. The actual Lascaux caves have had to be closed unfortunately to help preserve the original paintings but the gallery is excellent.

The Dordogne is a wonderful area for artists and very popular as it offers dramatic landscapes and picturesque villages.

The Perigord region of France is known for its gourmet foods. Goose and duck 'foie gras', delicious magret meals, nuts and nut oil, wild boar and venison are but a few. The area also has special 'night markets' where local producers have there stalls and locals and visitors join in an social evening buying each course of the evening meal and any wine from the market and eating together at long tressle tables. There is often music and dancing to accompany what is usually a very enjoyable evening .

The summer is a wonderfully busy time with fetes and festivals. Monpazier holds a medieval fete each year where all the local residents join in wearing suitable costume and the activities culminate with a parade. Each year the festivities for Bastille Day seem to get better and better with a fabulous firework display in Bergerac by the Dordogne.

Ride, cycle, canoe, or walk. Spend time painting the magnificent sunsets and landscape.

The choices really are many and offer something for everyone.
If you have any special requests, such as a wine tasting course or horse-riding the owners will be only too pleased to help you organise your stay.
