Monpazier arches

The archways surrounding the main square in Monpazier are lovely. You can browse and window-shop out of the sun before being tempted in by the display. Brocante owners set up their stalls and the market sellers enjoy the protection offered by them . However it is the early morning or late evening when they are best appreciated when all is calm and tranquil and the beauty of their construction is on full view.

Thursday morning is market day in Monpazier. The village is a hive of activity with stalls and visitors as well as locals doing their shopping. The lively banter and the vibrant colours make quite a spectacle.

Sunday morning is market morning in Issigeac and very busy and successful it most certainly is. Guests enjoy browsing and shopping and often stop for either a coffee at Sylvie’s Cafe or lunch in one of the restaurants.

Being a traditional bastide (walled) village Monpazier is designed on a grid system which is beautifully preserved. It is definitely worth turning off from the bustle of the main routes to wander through the alleyways ( carreyrou) as they give the visitor the true sense of peace and a time gone-by.
