Fete de Potiron

Last Sunday was the annual Fete de Potiron held in Issigeac, a beautiful village not far from here. In addition to the wonderful weekly market there were stalls specialising in different squashes, competitions and a fabulous festive atmosphere.

The Dordogne valley is a beautiful place to visit in May. The countryside is lush, the flower markets are in full swing and the sun is warm enough to enjoy outdoor living.

Now that we are definitely moving into autumn and the evenings are drawing in we enjoyed a spectacular sunset across the valley.
Perigord house

A typical Perigord house has steep roofs in a wonderful array. They give the houses their distinctive style so very different from the ‘Provencal Mas’ style of Les Faures.
Topiary at Jardin d’Aberlaide

Topiary is a very popular in this part of France. It manages to grow on the most difficult of soils. This display must be a challenge to maintain as it is on such a steep slope, although fortunately it doesn’t need clipping very often.

There is an abundance of beautiful houses and villages in this area of France, many tucked away discreetly down unpaved lanes. This is a wonderful example of an historic property.

It must be the tranquility and peace that draw people to cloisters and we have three near here to visit. One at St Evit-Seigneur, the second in Cadouin and the third in Marmande which is pictured below.
La Roc Saint Christophe

La Roc Saint Christophe is an amazing place to visit. The troglodyte caves date back thousands of years and are a fantastic example of how and where people used to live in pre-historic times.
Plum Harvest

The growing of plums for ‘prunes’ is a very important part of the economy of this area. Although the drying of the plums now is done on an industrial scale you can still find well preserved examples of the older style of prune ovens.
