Medieval Monpazier

The work in the square has been going apace and transforming our already beautiful and historic village into a truly medieval bastide town. It has been fascinating to see how it has taken just a few additions and props to give Monpazier a very convincing ambience.

There is great excitement in Monpazier as they prepare for the filming of scenes for the film The Last Duel. Some of the lucky local residents have been auditioned and are able to join in as extras so the village is buzzing. The cafes are doing a roaring trade so everyone is feeling very positive.
Hidden Gems in the Dordogne

Road closures come as a mixed blessing! They add miles to the route but then they do take you along new byways where you come across hidden gems tucked quietly away in the countryside. The wealth and variety of buildings in the Dordogne is wonderful and I always experiencing a new delight.

A lot has been written about the falling standards of French cuisine with many critics saying that the best is very expensive and the worst extremely poor. While this may be true in some respect we still find very good restaurants that serve excellent and inexpensive ‘ Menu du Jour’ . The attention to flavour and presentation is very appreciated by the local population.
