The French kitchen is the heart of the home. As the days grow increasingly short cutting time available to be outdoors, so more time seems to be spent round the table next to the fire.

Gentle Autumn

We have been enjoying a wonderful gentle Autumn here in the Dordogne. It has been perfect sitting in the sun enjoying an aperitif before lunch. The local towns seem to glow in the sunlight.

Autumn has arrived with all the wonderful mists and tree colours. Evenings once again require the fire to be lit and with the season of squashes well under way tasty warming suppers can be enjoyed with friends.

With the still warm days but cooler nights the truffle farmers are out looking for the wonderful hidden fungi. It’s a beautiful time of year here in the Perigord region.

Chateau du Laussel seen from Chateau de Commarque

We recently visited the Chateau du Commarque, a very romantic ruin set in a glorious landscape. The view across the valley was absolutely wonderful.

Re-decorating

With our last guests having left for this season thoughts have turned to our winter program of re-decoration. We bought a cupboard recently at a vide grenier which will look really good when given a makeover similar to the one in the photo.

Enticing alleyways in Sarlat

Guests are always enchanted by Sarlat. The narrow ancient alleyways entice the visitor to roam while admiring the architecture.
