The architecture in the Dordogne is rich and varied. Everywhere you look you can find interesting designs and the way’ new’ works with the history of the old buildings.

Our planting of Lavender outside on the front terrace is proving a great success. Guests are not being pestered by midges and are commenting on the fact that nights spent with the bedroom windows open are cool and restful. More lavender planting to come in the Autumn.

The lavender on the front terrace is stunning this year. It is alive with the most beautiful hummingbird hawk moths. We didn’t know what they were at first and so, thanks to google, we and some friends did research. In flight you can see their huge proboscis and lovely colour. Stationary they look very dull but the caterpillar is distinctive.

The French do have the most wonderful ways of advertising their local rural fetes. One of my favourites is the accessorised ‘tractor’ made from bales of hay.
